The Hollenbeck Home Page Last Updated: January, 2025 Welcome Friends and Family! . . Double-Click the pictures below to enlarge. After living 30 years in Davidson, no longer being host parents, living 8 months of the year in our cabin in Boone, we decided it was time to downsize and bought a home in a 55+ community in Mooresville in early 2023. Mooresville is five miles north of Davidson, and is the town Gwyn was born in. Yes the house is smaller, but it was an excellent time to downsize as we still plan to one day move to The Pines, which is a beautiful retirement community in Davidson where people go to live out their glory years before they catch their final flight. Above is our new home in Mooresville I am leaving a picture of the home we designed and built in Davidson because it was the home our beautiful International students knew and the most honored recognition we ever received through their efforts (more details under the "Special Honor" tab). Gwyn and Jerry continue to enjoy good health and mobility, which is a blessing when you are in your mid 70's. In late March of 2024 we left on a six week vacation, first to Australia staying and touring with a former student for three weeks, then flying to Japan for three weeks staying and touring with another former host student. This was a marvelous experience to two countries we had never visited, enhanced by our "children" bending over backwards to show us as much as we could handle! .. Youthful Blessings. In 1996 we hosted our first international student and we could have never imagined the joy and blessings that would be bestowed on us over the next 23 years through getting to know all of these great young people, their families, and their friends. A picture of the students "assigned" to us is below, but unfortunately it does not include the many other international students we have come to know "claim" and enjoy. The "Other Special Students" link above shows a few of the other international students that blessed our home and taught us so much more about the world in which we live. All of these great people remain close to our hearts and continue to bring joy to our lives. Double-Click the picture to enlarge and use your browser back arrow to return. . Brief History In December, 2008, we bought a cabin on a beautiful piece of property in the mountains between Blowing Rock and Boone, North Carolina. It has a 60 year old cabin on it . . LOTS of projects for Jerry and Gwyn! Over the last years we have completed numerous projects inside and outside. Gwyn: After working as an OB/GYN administrator for 28 years, I managed a dental practide in Huntersvillle for three years. I retired from the dental practice on February 6, 2008 and have thoroughly enjoyed reitrement. I highly recommend it! Jerry: I retired in March of 2013 deciding it was also time to try "retirement". I had cut my work week back to 4 days but the mountains kept saying "spend more time with me!" The cooler weather with much less humidity fits me just fine and I can find endless projects on our 7-1/2 acres to keep me/us busy. Wintering in Mooresville allows us the continued enjoyment of Davidson Basketball. The perfect life for now! ... A Sad Note About Bailey & Lilly We lost our precious little Lilly (7 Lbs), on July 27, 2016. Her health failed suddenly and unexpectedly. Bailey was with us, and it is amazing how dogs understand death. Then on August 1, 2018 we lost Bailey (12 Lbs). Although she was almost completely deaf she had remained in fairly good health until the end. Her deafness certainly didn't bother her and following Gwyn around everywhere was great company! To Serve and Protect, and give lots of joy! Bailey & Lilly They loved being together and riding in their "Jerry Built" car seat! . ....
